JORGOS COENEN

I'm an interaction designer and researcher interested all things visual and interactive. Constantly looking for new sources of inspiration in my favorite art forms: comics, film and independent music.

I focus on starting conversations with physical information visualisations and museum applications.

Compass politcal board game

Compass

Compass is a political board game I developed with my friend Jeroen Sannen. It takes place on a political compass whereupon players move by making political choices. The goal of the game is too push your opponents into the extremes and over the edge and be the only one standing.

Compass is a great tool to learn about the political sides by placing these into concrete context and linking them to historical figures.

fields short film

Fields

This short film was created at the Interfaculty in Maastricht with my fellow students Renaat Nijs, Seppe Kuppens and Silke Van Rooy. It's based on a short story by Jack London titled To Build a Fire. Our adaptation moves this story of survival and dependence from the woods to the city. I think it turned out pretty great.

Blozen blushing board game sexuality

Blozen

Blozen, or Blush, is another board game I created, this one with Hanneke Neven, Sacha Claes, Tine Lambrechts and Joeri Deplus. This time as part of a research project studying the imagery around elderly. We focussed on sexuality and aimed to make sex a more approachable subject for elderly since there really isn't anyplace for them to discuss this part of their lives.

Since sexuality is a sensitive subject to tackle we chose to create a simple game around it: Blozen. Testing it worked out great.

grid project manifesta short film

Grid Project

This promotional video is part of a school project for the biennial art festival Manifesta. It was meant to promote a competition that would allow amateur artists to take part in the event. The stop-motion was a real pain but it turned out great. I made this video with Seppe Kuppens, Saro Verhees en Lukas Terwingen.

facebook funeral critical design

Critical Design

Facebook Funeral was a critical design project we did in our first year of CMD. The entire school worked around rituals and we chose the ritual of funerals. We thought about how this ritual would work in the future and what would happen to our Facebook pages.

We concluded that it was highly probable that funerals would eventually become part of Facebook since it already includes so much of our private lifes. But is this something we wish to see happen? This is the question we asked through our design of Facebook Funeral.
